2025 Harvest

Red amaranth is delicious in boiled dishes and soups. It's also great in dressed dishes like ohitashi (blanched greens), sesame dressed, or white dressed, and namul. It pairs well with oil and is tasty added to stir-fries. It's rich in iron, making it especially recommended for pregnant and postpartum women.

Nutritionally, it's rich in calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C, with content far exceeding that of spinach. It is said to be effective for conditions like atopic dermatitis.

?? Sowing: April-May, September-October
Optimal germination temperature: 25-30℃

?? Cultivation
Basically a summer vegetable. Requires insulation in winter.
Can be grown in planters or pots.
Convenient to use commercially available vegetable potting soil.
Moisten the soil thoroughly, sow seeds broadcast or in rows.
Cover with about 1cm of soil and lightly press the surface.
Water gently and slowly so the seeds do not wash away.
Grow in a sunny location.
After germination, when the first true leaves appear (1-2 leaves), thin so that leaves do not overlap.
Start using thinned seedlings as baby greens when they have 3-4 true leaves. Harvest the whole plant when it reaches your desired size.
Protect from pests during their active period by using insect nets, as they are prone to damage.
Harvest leaves by tearing them off when they reach baby leaf size.
