I've taken the liberty of calling this a museum-quality piece, and I believe it is truly a rare find.
This is a rare old bow from the renowned BAZIN, a maker who needs no introduction.
The dealer from whom I purchased it is the highly respected French violin bow appraiser, J.F. Raffin.
The certificate is handwritten by Mr. Raffin from that era.
This is a rare type with inlay work on the stick near the frog, and the BAZIN inscription on the frog.
While the certificate states the fittings are nickel-silver, compared to typical nickel-silver, they do not appear cheap at all. Whether it's due to differences in metal content or not, they have a gentle luster with little tarnish, which is quite distinctive.
The stick is made of extremely rare amrette (which appears to be another name for snake wood). Among species considered to be soft woods, this carefully selected high-quality material is said to be as good as pernambuco. From a visual perspective, its magnificent grain sparkles with dazzling reflections like jewels when light hits it, making it a joy to behold all day long.
Furthermore, the stick is straight and slender, giving a sharp impression both in feel and tone.
The bow is in good overall condition with no breaks or repairs, though there are minor scratches.
These scratches are negligible for those who already own old bows, but might be noticeable to those who have only used new bows and are particularly sensitive.
As I prefer to keep all my instruments in their original state, I have not made any alterations.
