Director: Hiroyuki Nakano Starring: Morio Kazama / Mitsuru Fukikoshi / Tomoyasu Hotei

The first work by Hiroyuki Nakano, a genius in the music video world, is a period drama. With Mitsuru Fukikoshi in the lead role and Tomoyasu Hotei as the antagonist, this film features an unusual cast. Using vertical compositions extensively, the exaggerated monochrome visuals and fast-paced sword fights create an unprecedentedly pop and speedy samurai action film. Hotei, in particular, playing the nihilistic swordsman Kazesai, shows a completely different side from his musician persona, and it can be said that he discovered his talent as an actor through this work.
The story is about a samurai pursuing a swordsman who stole the clan's treasured sword, but he is helped by a mediocre middle-aged ronin whose motto is not to kill. This is a masterpiece that shows that even old formats like period dramas are not outdated depending on the approach. In addition, the lively performance of Tamaki Ogawa as the middle-aged ronin's daughter is also excellent.
