■ Product
Conophytum burgeri is a particularly popular type of Conophytum, with beautiful, transparent green skin that forms a spherical shape.
It sparkles and shines when light hits it. During colder seasons, depending on the individual plant, the spherical skin can turn pink to red, resembling Momiji (Japanese maple leaves).
It is sparsely found growing wild in the Richtersveld region of the Northern Cape, South Africa.
Around October, it blooms with very cute, white-bottomed pink flowers from the top of its conical head. It is a diurnal bloomer.
Compared to other Conophytums, it is very difficult to split after shedding its skin, making it unlikely to form clusters. However, single-headed plants can grow to nearly 5cm.
Since splitting is difficult, propagation is done through seed sowing (germination). It sheds its skin once a year in the fall. From mid-spring to late spring, it begins to cover itself with its old skin and enters dormancy. In September, when the growing season begins, new leaves emerge.
It is particularly weak against high temperatures and humidity compared to other Conophytums, making it challenging to overwinter. Therefore, seedlings propagated by collectors and specialized dealers are distributed from autumn to spring, rather than those grown by commercial farmers. The distribution volume is very low, and it is a Conophytum often obtained from specialized dealers.
