Tanba Black Edamame (25 beans) - Grown without pesticides. Other seeds also available.
Tanba Black Edamame Seeds (20 seeds) - Pesticide-free
We also have seeds for other vegetables such as bitter melon (15 seeds) and Corotan (10 seeds). (20 edamame + 15 bitter melon + 10 Corotan = 550 seeds)
Since root nodules attach to the roots and convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia, providing it as fertilizer, edamame can basically be cultivated without additional fertilizer.
Edamame is rich in protein and vitamin A, and is a vegetable with a good balance of amino acids.
There are two main cultivation methods: transplanting and direct sowing. For beginners, it's easier to grow from seedlings purchased in pots at home centers. However, I find direct sowing to be simple.
Planting Period: April to August (around Obon, but varies by climate and location)
- 20°C to 30°C is required for growth and flowering, so plant accordingly to ensure optimal temperature during the flowering period.
- Optimal growing temperature is 25°C to 28°C, and it is tolerant of high temperatures.
- Sow 2 seeds per spot, about 2cm deep.
Watering
- Once flowers appear, do not let the plants dry out.
Precautions
- A common mistake when sowing seeds is planting on a hot day and then watering the seeds. The heat can cause the seeds to rot and die off completely.
- It is best to water the soil beforehand and sow the seeds when the soil is semi-dry. Allow the moisture in the soil to germinate the seeds without additional watering.
- We recommend using shade cloth or similar to protect against insects.
☆ The most important thing when growing edamame is to water regularly to prevent drying out. Also, increasing the amount of water as harvest approaches will help the beans swell.
