This is a classic herb essential for meat dishes in Italian and German cuisine.
In spring, it sends up flower spikes from the tips of its branches, blooming beautiful pale purple or white flowers.
It's a favorite flower of butterflies and bees!
It's quite a sight when grown in clusters.
As it grows, the stems become woody from the base.

In our home, when we've overeaten or overdrank, or when we have a poor appetite, we put 2-3 leaves in a cup and pour hot tea over them to make sage tea.
Sage leaves whose flavor has diminished can be placed in a laundry net and floated in the bathtub as a bath additive. It is said to promote blood circulation.
The typical flower color of Common Sage is pale purple, but since we also have a white-flowering Common Sage plant nearby, white-flowering seeds may be mixed in.
