Sansho pepper seedling, in pot

This is a wonderfully fragrant sansho (Japanese pepper) seedling from nature. It's been potted with its original humus soil and protected with moss. The presence of thorns growing opposite each other is a sign of sansho. Please handle with care to avoid getting pricked by the thorns. We have removed some of the thorns for this listing.

Sansho seedlings are sensitive to environmental changes and dislike having their roots disturbed. To minimize stress, they are being sold as they are in their pots. Please place them in a well-ventilated, partially shaded location. Be aware that swallowtail butterflies are fond of laying eggs on sansho in the summer, which can strip the leaves bare. The leaves will fall off completely in the autumn, but new shoots will emerge in the spring. Please enjoy watching it grow year after year.

■ The seedling will be delivered in the pot shown in the photos. You can also grow it directly in the pot in a well-draining area. If you plan to repot it into a larger container, gradually move it to slightly larger pots. When repotting, please transfer it with the soil.
