We ship thick-rooted plants that are easy to grow in community gardens and on balconies.
If you are using a community garden, please grow them until the harvest period and then replant them once your plot is assigned.

Sales period: Approximately April to November.
Sales are suspended from late November to April due to frozen ground and snow, making harvesting impossible.

Each plant has 1 to 3 stems.

We deliver bare-root seedlings.

No pesticides are used during seedling cultivation.

Harvest when they reach 25cm or more and enjoy tender chives.
You can expect to harvest about 80-120g from 15 plants. In northern Iwate Prefecture, you can harvest tender chives about once a month from May to early October.

With proper care, you can enjoy delicious chives for many years.

We used seeds from Watanabe Seed Company, Matsushima Hybrid.
Variety: Nira Tairyo (Chives, Large Harvest)

Chives are cold-hardy plants.
This variety has leaves wider than 1cm.
It is a variety with less tillering.
The long sheaths make harvesting and bundling easier.

Around July-August, flower stalks will grow. You can pick and eat the buds as flower chives.

My personal favorite way to eat them is as a blanched dish with freshly picked, tender chives. They have a natural sweetness and I love them.

For ground planting, plant about 5 sprouts per spot with a spacing of about 30cm.
Please be diligent with weeding.

The roots will be protected with newspaper or similar material for shipping.
