Description
Scientific Name: Hexodon latissimum
Hexodon refers to a genus of beetles belonging to the family Scarabaeidae, order Coleoptera, class Insecta. They are endemic to Madagascar. Their bodies are perfectly round, and their backs feature a distinctive pattern based on stripes. They have no horns. They are omnivorous, feeding on decaying matter such as animal carcasses and citrus peels.
Their elytra are fused together, and their hindwings are also vestigial, rendering them incapable of flight.
A similar genus, Hemicyrtus, is known from New Caledonia and is sometimes considered another genus within the tribe Hexodontini, alongside Hexodon.
