Kurogaki (black persimmon wood) is a particularly rare and expensive wood, characterized by unique black patterns in the grain of persimmon wood. These black patterns appear due to the environment and conditions during the tree's growth process, and are generally found in older persimmon trees. The black parts are sometimes called suminagashi (ink flow) or tora-fu (tiger stripes) and are highly valued as beautiful patterns created by nature.
Due to its rarity, kurogaki is prized as a high-grade wood and is often used for crafts such as tea ceremony utensils, carvings, and furniture.
