We are pleased to offer our homegrown water caltrops that have sprouted this year. As the weather gets warmer, you can feel a sense of elegance by simply floating them in your pond, water basin, or aquarium as floating aquatic plants. The floating greenery will bring a sense of coolness and are perfect for creating a biotope for living creatures.

Please understand that there may be differences in growth between individual plants. They have grown larger than pictured.

In recent years, water caltrops seem to be decreasing in some areas due to the effects of herbicides. When water caltrops are introduced, dragonflies and tadpoles will be born, and they will prey on mosquito larvae in ponds and buckets that were previously breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Last year, we saw dragonflies visiting to lay eggs and frogs resting. Damselflies visit to lay eggs. Other visitors included globe skimmers, and even large frogs have visited. By adding water caltrops, you can enjoy the creation of an ecosystem in puddles.
They are also ideal for protecting medaka and goldfish from direct sunlight and serve as hiding places.
Small flowers bloom on hot summer days, and the ripe fruits are edible and have a unique chestnut-like flavor when boiled. They are very hardy and cold-resistant. If seeds are successfully produced, they will overwinter and sprout again in the spring of the following year, allowing you to enjoy them again even in frozen ponds.
As these are homegrown, please understand that algae, pond snails, or some kind of eggs may be attached. Also, due to the sharp thorns characteristic of water caltrops, which could puncture the packaging, the sharp thorns will be cut off before shipping.
