THREE PRELUDES
FOR SOLO MARIMBA
■ Tracks
* Preludio No.1 E minor
* Preludio No.2 A Major
* Preludio No.3 C Major
■ Explanation
The Three Preludes are among the composer's early works for marimba. Prelude No. 1 was originally written for guitar and illustrates the harmonies of flamenco music and the Spanish flavor of the work.
Prelude No. 2 was written as a tribute to the great Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. The first theme is a homage to the master, while the second and third themes are based on melodic sequences characteristic of Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras series and diminished chord passages often found in his guitar works.
The introduction and coda of Prelude No. 3 are presented in a roll technique, in a chorale-like style. The second section introduces two new themes with rapid alternating mallet movements, showcasing virtuosity through expressive melodies.
