■Composer's Commentary
The Three Chorales for Marimba for solo marimba were originally written as individual pieces at different times and were not intended to be performed as a set. A Little Prayer and Light in Darkness were written when I was 13 years old, expressing my spiritual emotions while also showcasing the instrument's pleasant and relaxing aspects. Giles is dedicated to a friend who tragically died in a climbing accident. All three pieces are in a simple chorale style, maximizing the unique resonance of the marimba.

■Evelyn Glennie
Despite the handicap of losing most of her hearing at the age of 12, she is one of the world's leading solo percussionists. By feeling other sounds with her entire body, she is also able to perform ensemble music with other musicians. She won a Grammy Award in 1989, was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1993, and was appointed Dame Commander in 2006.
