Ichimatsu doll, made by Shokansai Toko, seated Ichimatsu, genuine silk ancient textile kimono
Thank you for viewing.
Ichimatsu Doll by Shokansai Toko, with cushion, support board for sitting, and wooden tag.
This Ichimatsu doll has a gentle, elegant, and refined face.
Designed for sitting. Its seated posture is also full of grace.
The kimono with its gorgeous peony pattern on a purple background is also lovely.
The face and body are finished with carved paulownia wood and layered gofun. The kimono is made of genuine silk antique fabric.
The kimono can be removed and changed.
I was told that this doll is a work by First Shokansai Toko.
At the very least, it is a genuine work from the First lineage, not from a later period, workshop, or mass-produced.
① Ink inscription on the lining of the collar:
• Shokansai Toko
• Number (a symbol that appears to be around number 40)
This style of writing is characteristic of the period when First managed individual pieces. In later periods, simplified ink inscriptions and omitted numbers became more common.
⸻
② The quality of the face (head) is typical of First.
Eyes: Slit-shaped but not sharp.
Eyebrows: Very faint, blending into the facial features.
Nose: Not prominent, emphasizing the flow of the face.
Mouth: The red is not too thick, and the outline is ambiguous.
This is exactly how Shokansai Toko's work was from the early Showa to pre-war periods.
Works by Toko lineage after the war tend to have more cuteness and uniformity suitable for mass production.
⸻
③ Quality of the gofun:
The whiteness of the skin is not too white, not too yellowish, and shines with a smooth finish.
This is a characteristic of First's gofun mixture.
Later works have a uniform and hard white.
⸻
④ Hair (human hair) and how it is applied:
The quality of the hair is uneven, and the hairline is not perfectly straight.
→ Hand-applied, a definitive element of the First generation.
Later works are more mechanical.
