Description
Late Joseon Dynasty Mother-of-Pearl Small Box
Period |
Late Joseon Dynasty (19th Century)
Dimensions |
W9.5cm, D6.5cm, H11.5cm | Lid H3cm
◎ About the Design
The designs, reminiscent of picture books or folk art, possess a charming, slightly naive quality that makes them endlessly captivating.
It is believed that the mother-of-pearl inlay, originally featuring incised lines, has become indistinct due to age, which may further enhance this impression.
◎ About the Body
The entire box is lacquered, which has also developed an amber hue over time.
There are scuffs on the corners, but these also contribute to the sense of age.
When you open the lid, you'll find a partition inside, making it suitable for storing small items.
The adhesive surface of the partition is peeling, but this can also be seen as a trace of its history.
◎ Comment from the Antique Shop When Purchased
I actually found this small box during a previous European sourcing trip. It's a box with a story, having traveled far and wide.
Thank you for looking.
