【Unused/Takaoka Lacquerware Carved Lacquer Peony Round Tray 32.5cm In Box
【Unused/Takaoka Lacquerware Carved Lacquer Round Tray
This is a round tray featuring the Carved Lacquer (Choukoku-nuri) technique, a traditional craft of Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. Diameter: 32.5 cm.
This technique involves carving patterns such as flowers and plants into a wooden base, and then applying multiple layers of lacquer over it.
Makomo ink or similar materials are applied to the deeply carved areas to emphasize shadows, creating a sense of three-dimensionality and a unique luster.
The tray is carved with peonies, a motif commonly used in Takaoka lacquerware. Peonies are considered a symbol of wealth and nobility and are very popular.
