Description
A beautiful and delicate antique lace collar/cuff piece from Bruges, Belgium, the ancient city of water and canals, often called the Venice of Belgium, circa 1880. This piece is framed on a blue linen background for your casual enjoyment.

This is a rare Rosaline Lace piece, created using an embroidery technique called Rosaline Lace or Rosaline Perle, which involves creating three-dimensional French knots/circles and weaving them with bobbins. (The center of the flowers features plump dots representing pistils and stamens).

Rosaline means rose, and Perle means pearl.

Within this small work, there are likely over 15 flowers, countless blossoms that resemble flowers, and pairs and triplets of leaves intricately woven. Flowers give birth to flowers, and some resemble butterflies, creating an elegant and mystical scene.

The pistils of the flowers are adorned with Perle. Small roses shine like baby pearls or pave diamonds.

Due to the extreme difficulty, there are reportedly no artisans today who can perform this type of handwork.

The embroidery threads are extremely fine, possessing a crispness and luster similar to silk or high-quality linen. The picots decorating the scalloped edge are also delicate. This is a masterpiece that evokes the rarity of jewelry.

The color is also very attractive: a gentle antique ecru with a hint of green, as if it has aged gracefully, or a noble and elegant ivory with a greenish hue.

Judging by touch, it appears to be unused and unwashed, retaining its original excellent texture.

It is a work into which an ancient woman poured her soul into extremely fine, delicate threads, dedicating immense effort and time to its completion.
