A beautiful Normandy lace doily from France or Belgium, handmade between the 1800s and early 1900s. It features a charming, rounded Point de Rose motif that makes a striking impression.

The center is adorned with hand-embroidered Point de Rose, characteristic of Brussels or Bruges lace. The surrounding edge is encircled by Valenciennes lace, showcasing a delicate arrangement of small, lovely classic roses.

Uniquely, it also incorporates individual hand-embroidered Point de Rose and cockscomb-like flowers in Alençon lace.

The contrast between the fine needlework threads and the thicker outline threads creates beautiful shading and definition.

Small floral motifs and celosia-like flowers are embroidered on tulle using tambour lace, while the Valenciennes lace, featuring openwork motifs resembling primroses, is further enhanced with tambour lace embroidery of leaves on the tulle.

Multiple intricate lace pieces are artfully arranged and patched together, utilizing curves to highlight the floral motifs, resulting in a delicate and beautiful round doily design.

The edge of the Valenciennes lace rim, with its petite scallops, is finished with delicate picot lace embroidery ➰.
