Description
This is an extremely rare Uchiwa-e (fan print) from the Taisho to early Showa periods.

This is an unused print, before it was applied to the ribs of a fan.

It vividly depicts a mother choosing a bolt of fabric for her daughter, with the colors and patterns of retro kimonos evoking the Taisho Roman era, catching the eye.

The greatest charm of this item is the exquisite embossed texture applied to the paper.

Techniques such as Karazuri (blind embossing) and general embossing, which create a three-dimensional effect without the use of paint by pressing a mold onto the paper according to the kimono patterns and background, are used extensively.

The raised patterns appear and disappear depending on the light, showcasing the dedication of the artisans of the time and the warmth of their handiwork in this luxurious creation.

There is a print on the lower left that reads [東印 三拾 六號].

There are age-related stains, yellowing, and small tears along the edges. Please check the photos.

We recommend framing it as interior decor, using it as material for junk journals or collages, or as part of a collection of Japanese antiques.

✿ We can combine shipping for paper items. Please contact us in the comments to discuss.
