Sakai Moichi "Yasuragi (Dōsojin)" Hanging Scroll, Original Painting, With Artist's Biography and Original Box
33.00 $
Description
This is a hand-painted hanging scroll titled Yasuragi (Dōsojin) by Moeichi Sakai (born 1948), a writer from Gifu Prefecture.
The artwork depicts Dōsojin, the deity who protects travelers and wards off evil spirits from roads, as a charming, rounded twin statue rendered in ink and light colors. It includes the inscription Nakayoshi fūfu de ike miyo (May you have a good relationship like a married couple), the artist's signature, and a red seal. This is a characteristic expression by Moeichi Sakai, combining a heartwarming warmth with folk art-like strength.
The piece comes with a wooden box (tomo-bako) with the artist's handwritten title and floral motifs, as well as a biographical profile of the artist (listing exhibition and award history from 1971 to 1990), ensuring a clear provenance. This is a hand-painted work by an artist with a proven track record, including an honorable mention at the 1983 Japan Graphic Award.
