GEWA Viola 15.5 inch (39.5cm) with Bow, Case, and Shoulder Rest
GEWA Viola (Viol) Made in 2008
15.5 inches (39.5cm)
GEWA is a brand that can be confidently recommended for everyone from beginners to amateur orchestras.
When I was a student, GEWA was the first brand I purchased, and it was recommended to me by a trusted craftsman at a workshop in Tokyo.
While I was actually using it, many people around me often complimented it, saying it was a good-sounding instrument.
This instrument is sold for around 253,000 yen for the body only at instrument shops, and around 320,000 yen for the bow and case set.
GEWA, a company that has long produced string instrument accessories in Germany, supervises the entire process, and the instruments are manufactured in China. The quality is extremely high, and if the same instrument were made in Europe, it would undoubtedly cost more than double.
I have used it with great care, so it is clean with only minor scuffs on the surface due to age.
However, there is a small dent on the left side of the surface in the constricted area, and small scratches from the adjuster (see images).
Neither of these affects the playing or the tone in any way.
It produces a deep, powerful low sound, as expected of a viola, and the balance of the four strings is excellent, making it difficult to notice the difference between strings when changing them.
The price is set considering that it is an instrument with excellent sound and that the sound and condition have settled over the years, making it more mature than a new instrument.
The bow, case, and shoulder rest are in good condition, but please consider them as extras as they were not originally high-end items.
GEWA is highly cost-effective and recommended. While GEWA violins are seen quite often on flea market sites, violas are rarely listed, making them difficult to obtain.
This is a chance for those looking for a GEWA viola, those purchasing their first viola, or those considering upgrading from a beginner instrument, to obtain an instrument with a deeper tone than a new one at a much better price than buying from a music store. I encourage you to consider it.
If you are seriously considering purchasing and are a trustworthy individual, I can arrange for you to try it out in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture.
