The Menuhin-style shield mute, which was difficult to obtain despite being loved by many professional and amateur musicians, is now available from Alpine Mute in the UK. It is known for its ease of use and tone. We recommend the Professional model, which features embedded brass, for its soft, warm tone with beautiful high notes. The Artist model, with the same design, is offered at a lower price for beginners and intermediate players. Both models are compatible with violins and violas.
