Georgian/Victorian Lovers Knot Snake Rolled Gold Brooch

Antique

149.00 $
Description
An outstanding example of a late Georgian/early Victorian lovers knot brooch, this piece is also a bit larger than most! Made from rolled gold, this lovely and fluid design is an entwined Lover’s Knot, incorporating the serpents with the beveled heads. Snakes represented eternal love and commitment and Queen Victoria’s wedding ring from Albert was a snake! A lovely way to incorporate that sentiment into a piece of jewelry! The coils of the brooch are engraved with flowers and leaves as are the two leaves. The brooch features the extra long pin stem found in antique jewelry and a tube hinge with C-clasp. The brooch has no markings that I can find. 2 by 1 3/8”.
