Due to the high density of the material (indicating a heavier wood), it offers a supple feel upon contact with the strings. While compatibility with the instrument is a factor, I find it tends to produce a rounder, sweeter tone. It's unlikely to produce a harsh, tinny sound.
It possesses power and seems to handle slightly rougher playing techniques with grace.
While I don't consciously focus on overtones, a friend with an excellent ear, upon hearing my violin played with this bow, noted that older bows often produce a sound with fewer overtones and less directional variation. I feel this bow exhibits that characteristic.
The frog, grip, and other components are unfamiliar, making material identification difficult, but they appear to be original and have not been replaced. There is some wear, which I find adds to its charm. (As someone who appreciates vintage items, some buyers might prefer replacements.)
The bow was recently re-haired for this listing.
There are no breaks or extreme bends (while not perfectly straight due to age, it's not significantly warped), and key elements affecting playability and lifespan appear to be in good condition.
The camber is well-maintained, providing good grip and responsiveness.
I am selling it because it feels slightly too powerful for my current instrument, and I am seeking a lighter bow. It's also a matter of necessity.
Are you looking for a bow with tenacity and power, characterized by a dark, rounded tone?
