These are vintage Mid-Century Modern (MCM) icicle Christmas ornaments typically marked Hong Kong or Made in Hong Kong. During the 1950s through the 1970s, factories in Hong Kong produced millions of these lightweight, molded hard plastic (lucite/acrylic) prisms. They were designed to mimic expensive glass chandelier crystals, bringing a high-end, glistening look to holiday trees at an affordable price. Identifying Features The Mold Stamp: The words Hong Kong or Made in Hong Kong are usually embossed directly into the flat plastic tab or small top square section where the metal hanging wire inserts. The Unbreakable Advantage: These were widely marketed as child and pet-friendly alternatives to delicate glass ornaments because they wouldn't shatter if knocked off a tree branch. Light Catching Design: The classic multi-faceted spear and diamond geometry was intentionally engineered to catch and refract the glow of vintage miniature tree lights.
