Akasen Chitai (Red Light District) is a 1956 film directed by Kenji Mizoguchi. It was Mizoguchi's first contemporary drama since The Woman of Rumor in 1954, and it became his final work as he passed away after its release.
In addition to Aiko Mimasu, known for her mother roles at the time, playing a senior prostitute, the film also received high praise for the vibrant and frenzied performances of Machiko Kyo, Ayako Wakao, and Michiyo Kogure, which differed from their other works.
