Antique Wool Camp Blanket: Double-Sided Shamrock Jacquard Weave Eleanor Stokes
Unbranded
This double-sided antique wool blanket from a Quaker summer camp, dating to the early 20th century. One side presents white shamrocks on a soft blue ground; reverse shows the same pattern in blue on cream — a quality weave that reads completely differently depending on which face you show. A stripe border finishes both ends. The campers name, Eleanore Stokes, remains on the blanket — an unusual and appealing piece of provenance that roots this object firmly in a specific time, place, and life. Shamrock motifs in American textiles of this period often carried Irish-American cultural significance alongside their decorative appeal. The weave is dense and substantial, as youd expect from a blanket made to survive seasons of outdoor use. Dimensions: 52 inches × 72 inches approximately Material: Wool Construction: Double-sided jacquard weave, stripe border Era: c.1910s Provenance: Named Quaker summer camp blanket — Eleanore Stokes Condition: Light staining and small holes consistent with age and use.
