*About Genuine Red Oak
Compared to genuine Biwa, which is relatively light and emphasizes toughness, we believe genuine red oak is the best material for practical bokken when considering a balance of weight, strength, and toughness.

The red oak bokken currently sold are made from a substitute called Ichii Oak. To distinguish it from Ichii Oak, genuine red oak is referred to as Hon Akagashi (genuine red oak) or Akahon-gashi.
Genuine red oak logs are now extremely rare and rarely circulate in the market, making it very difficult to obtain a bokken made from genuine red oak.
Due to the lack of raw logs, it will become even more difficult to obtain in the future, making the rarity of genuine red oak extremely high.
Furthermore, a bokken made from genuine red oak for Aikido (Bushan Bokken) is not sold in any store.
