Antique Whitney Made Worcester Mass Mechanical Valentine Card Die Cut 1920s N-2
N/A
Highly unique antique 1920s mechanical Valentine's Day greeting card produced by the historic George C. Whitney Company. Designed in a gorgeous heart shape, the front features an ornate, layered red paper lace doily overlay, gold foil heart accents, and a central cutout revealing a young child in a sailor uniform. The heart opens vertically upward to a printed greeting and a black-and-white ink illustration of children. Publisher Markings: Stamped with the official signature Whitney Made, Worcester, Mass. Made in U.S.A. logo on the back center. Era: 1920s. Interior Poem: FOR MY VALENTINE / I've caught you, little playmate, / Don't look so surprised / That I want you for my Valentine, / Surely you've surmised. Signatures/Writing: Hand-signed at the bottom of the interior panel in elegant, vintage fountain pen ink reading Elizabeth Thomas. The back features a very faint pencil mark from a past collection near the top edge. Good structural integrity with the main hinge fully intact. Shows minor, age-appropriate edge wear and softening along the delicate outer lace paper scallops. The reverse side shows light surface abrasions and historic glue/mounting residue spots from a past scrapbook placement (clearly visible in photos). One structural tear connecting the top to the bottom in the left side of the card. (Envelope is not included).
