There is a white mark/bump at the top of the door on one of the orange cottages. Dimensions: Large Churches: 2-3/4 inches tall x 1 inch wide Houses: 1-3/4 inches tall x 3/4 inch wide Artistic & Lacquering Style: These miniatures are crafted using traditional Russian woodturning and folk painting techniques: The Wood: Hand-carved from lightweight linden wood (lipa), the preferred choice of Russian artisans for centuries due to its smooth grain. The Painting Style: The vibrant detailing blends elements of Khokhloma and Lubok folk art traditions, featuring bold geometric accents, bright window frames (nalichniki), and distinct architectural patterns. Some fine detailing is achieved via subtle pyrography (wood-burning outline) under the paint. The Finish: The pieces are sealed in a heavy, high-gloss clear lacquer. This traditional multi-layer lacquering technique protects the gouache paint from fading and gives the miniatures their signature glass-like, reflective finish.
