Antique Uranium Glass Carafe — Hand-Blown, Etched Floral & Scroll, c. 1900
Unbranded
A stunning antique uranium glass carafe (also known as Vaseline glass), hand-blown with a beautifully detailed needle-etched floral and scroll pattern encircling the bulbous base. The tall, elegant neck features vertical optic ribbing (fluting) that catches and refracts light, and the flared rim gives it a refined, finished silhouette. In the style of Baccarat — a sophisticated bedside water carafe or apothecary bottle form from the Victorian/Edwardian era. Glows a vivid neon green under UV blacklight (tested at both 395nm and 365nm), confirming high uranium content in the glass. The glow on this one is exceptionally strong — a showstopper under blacklight. The base features a polished pontil mark — the hallmark of quality hand-blown glass production. A polished (ground) pontil indicates this piece was finished by hand after being removed from the blowpipe, a step that added labor and cost, distinguishing it from lower-quality production glass with rough or unfinished pontils.
