Vintage 1930s Cambridge Glass Wildflower Gold Encrusted 2-Handled Platter
Cambridge Glass
A breathtaking masterpiece of Depression-era American craftsmanship. This elegant double-handled serving tray or underplate was manufactured by the iconic Cambridge Glass Company of East Liverpool, Ohio, during the 1930s to 1940s. Celebrated as one of the premier producers of Elegant Glass, Cambridge was legendary for its meticulous attention to clarity, form, and intricate decorative treatments. This highly collectible plate features Cambridge's famous Wildflower pattern (Etch #745), which has been magnificently gold encrusted. The process involved deeply acid-etching the elaborate botanical motif of blooming wildflowers, swirling vines, and textured foliage directly into the clear glass blanks. The etched areas were then carefully filled with genuine, rich liquid gold and fired, creating an opulent, raised metallic tapestry that catches the light brilliantly from every angle. The blank features a highly distinct, scalloped rim framed with hand-gilded trim and ornate open-loop handles molded seamlessly into the glass. The tray is in excellent vintage condition, exhibiting pristine glass clarity and exceptional gold retention across the entire floral design. The gilded edge shows minimal to no shelf wear or rubbing, preserving its bright, high-shine luxury finish. There are no chips, flea bites, hairline fractures, or cloudiness present.
