“Symbols of Security” presentation tie clasp, Raytheon Polaris Missile System

This is an original Raytheon “Symbols of Security” presentation tie clasp, featuring a detailed miniature of the AIM-7 Sparrow III guided missile. These were not retail pieces — they were issued during the late 1950s–1960s to Raytheon engineers, U.S. military officers, and defence personnel associated with guided-missile programs. This particular example comes with documented provenance to: Private First Class Donald Coning, U.S. Army, recipient of the Army Good Conduct Medal. The tie clasp was part of his personal effects and was retained with his medal group. This suggests either: Direct involvement in missile program support, Formal presentation during a service or training-related award period. The AIM-7 Sparrow III was a key Cold War guided weapon used with the F-4 Phantom, and Raytheon was the prime contractor for: AIM-7 Sparrow III MIM-23 HAWK Guidance electronics for UGM-27 Polaris The original labelled presentation box is included and intact. New from 1960 was never sold, had to be awarded to members of the Program.
