〈Synopsis〉
Georges Dandin, a wealthy peasant, wishes to elevate his social status and marries Angélique, the daughter of a bankrupt, upstart provincial nobleman, Monsieur de Sotenville. However, her family constantly reminds him of their social differences even after the marriage. Angélique, despite being married, cannot give up the pleasures of high society and is not displeased by the advances of the Viscount Critandor from the neighboring estate. Dandin, realizing this, tries to gather evidence of his wife's misconduct to present to her parents, but each time his schemes are thwarted by his wife, and he is unable to exact revenge for the humiliation he suffers.
