A coming-of-age film directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien, who projects himself into the story of a former delinquent, depicting the struggles and growth of a young man who moves to the city. The direction, which expresses the protagonist's emotions through baroque music, is also effective. It won the Grand Prix at the Three Continents Festival in Nantes.
