Description
This antique Chinese ginger jar from the Qing Dynasty is beautifully decorated porcelain in the Famille Rose palette, famous for its delicate pinks, greens, and intricate detailing. It also has some hints of Famille Verte with the greens and reds. The jar depicts traditional scenes with figures engaged in daily activities, like boys at play, and symbolic elements, all hand-painted and enameled. This oval ginger jar is decorated on all sides with a scene of boys at play in a garden setting, which is a popular and meaningful theme in Chinese decorative arts. This vase was at some point converted into a lamp, given the small hole in the lid and in the base. It can be used as a lamp base again, as a decorative display, or even as a vase or storage jar if you plug up the hole in the bottom. This is a gorgeous Asian antique with multiple uses. It was likely made circa 1900.
