Antique Victorian Brass Filigree Cloak Hook Fastener - c. 1880–1900

Step back into the elegance of the Victorian era with this beautiful antique brass filigree fastening.   Richly-detailed with intricate openwork scrolls and delicate floral motifs, this substantial 4-inch piece showcases the craftsmanship and romantic Gothic Revival styling popular in the late 19th century.  The piece features a sturdy downward-facing front hook and a rear attachment loop, suggesting it was originally used as a decorative clasp or fastening for a cloak, cape, or other period garment.   While its exact original purpose is unknown to me, it is an exceptional example of antique decorative brasswork.  The untouched aged patina beautifully highlights its authentic antique character.
