This anime is based on the manga Graveyard Kitaro, which is the origin of GeGeGe no Kitaro.
It is a faithful adaptation of the original manga.
Kitaro is not on the side of Justice, but is dark and lives in the shadows with the same worldview as Nezumi Otoko.
This is truly Shigeru Mizuki's origin, and it vividly portrays the poverty of the post-war era.
