Description
The image features deep porcelain rim soup plates decorated in the iconic Blue Onion pattern, historically known in Germany as Zwiebelmuster.Pattern History & BackgroundOrigin: Developed around 1739 by the prestigious Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in Saxony, Germany.Design Details: It was inspired by Chinese export porcelain from the Kangxi period. The central motif showcases a bamboo stalk, a peony, and an aster flower. The Onion Misnomer: The stylized fruits along the rim border are actually peaches and pomegranates—traditional Asian symbols of fertility and longevity. Because pomegranates were unfamiliar to 18th-century Europeans, they mistakenly called them onions.
