This CD features highlights from Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece opera Aida, which dramatically portrays the conflict between love and country set in ancient Egypt. From the magnificent sounds of the Triumphal March to the pure duet at the end, it encapsulates the essence of Italian opera.

The performance is by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by the emperor Herbert von Karajan. This recording, symbolizing the golden age of the 1950s, is a superb fusion of the orchestra's unparalleled flowing sound and the overwhelming vocal performances of legendary singers such as Tebaldi and del Monaco. Karajan's masterful control of structure, which he excelled at, and the Vienna Philharmonic's rich tone, perfectly enhance the dramatic intensity of the story, making this one of the definitive recordings of this opera among many. You can enjoy its supreme artistry, which remains vibrant even more than half a century after its recording.
