Ciccolini 56-Disc Box Set: Complete EMI Recordings 1950-1991
Introducing a monumental box set compiling the recordings made by pianist Aldo Ciccolini for EMI between 1950 and 1991, spanning over half a century of his distinguished career in France. This collection comes in a clamshell box and includes an 84-page booklet.

[A Pillar of the French Piano World]
Born in Naples in 1925, Ciccolini entered the Naples Conservatory at the age of nine to study piano and composition. He made his debut at seventeen performing Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 and became a professor at his alma mater at the young age of twenty-two. He later moved to Paris at twenty-four after winning the Long-Thibaud International Competition. He eventually became a naturalized French citizen and established himself as a leading pianist in the French music scene for many years. At forty-six, he became a professor at the Paris Conservatory, expanding his activities internationally and visiting Japan numerous times.

[Extensive Recordings for EMI]
Ciccolini's relationship with French EMI began the year after his victory at the Long-Thibaud International Competition with a recording of Scarlatti's Sonatas. The following year, he recorded Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 under the baton of Cluytens. Since then, he has made numerous sessions, resulting in recordings of a diverse repertoire including works by Debussy, Massenet, Satie, Séverac, Albéniz, Arensky, Bach, Beethoven, Borodin, Brahms, Castillon, Chabrier, Chopin, Couperin, Falla, Fauré, Franck, Granados, Grieg, Hahn, d'Indy, Kabalevsky, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Mompou, Mussorgsky, Poulenc, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Rameau, Ravel, Rossini, Saint-Saëns, Scarlatti, Schubert, Schumann, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky.

[First CD Releases and First Releases Ever]
This collection features works being released for the first time, such as his first Debussy album recorded in 1969 and Pictures at an Exhibition recorded in 1976. Notably, it also includes Mozart's Sonatas and Bach's Inventions, which are being released on CD for the first time in France.
