Antique Sevres Style Porcelain Mandolin Trinket Box Hand Paint Hinged Snuff Pill
Sevres style French antique
An exquisite 19th-century Sèvres-style porcelain trinket box, meticulously crafted in the whimsical shape of a mandolin or lute. This piece is a beautiful 1800s Victorian-era tribute honoring famed 1700s royal French porcelain designs. The exterior lid showcases a stunning polychrome bouquet of hand-painted flowers framed inside an ornate gold-gilt cartouche over a soft teal enamel glaze. The underside is similarly enriched with elegant, raised gilt scroll foliage. When opened, the interior delights with 2 separate hand-painted floral surprises—blue violets in the lower bowl, and a red sprig under the lid. The gilt-metal bands fit flush against the porcelain contours, held securely by a classic three-part barrel hinge and a gorgeous rosette floral thumbpiece clasp. Roman numerals on the inner rim verify its hand-assembled craftsmanship. Condition: Excellent antique 5x2. No chips, cracks, or repairs to the porcelain. The hand-painted enamels are exceptionally bright. The original plaster adhesive shows normal antique seepage around the rims but remains structurally sound. The metal holds a beautiful, uncleaned warm patina.
