Iconic Vintage Safilo Peggy 1 Sunglasses. If you think of Peggy Guggenheim, besides the two prestigious museums that carry her name, what will come to your mind are the black and white photographs that portray her wearing her iconic “Butterfly” sunglasses. Designed in the '50s by her American friend and artist Edward Melcarth, they became an essential part of her public image thanks to their surreal lines which reflected aesthetically a complex personality devoted to art and innovation. In 1994 Safilo paid homage to this iconic design by producing a remake of these imaginative frames on sale at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.
