WITHOUT YOU is a song Tatsuro Yamashita provided to Debbie Gibson in 1990.
This song was used as the theme song for the TBS drama Otoko ni Tsuite (starring Yuko Asano).
The following year, in 1991, he self-covered it with Japanese lyrics as Sayonara Natsu no Hi.
This was his 18th single, released on May 10, 1991, and reached a peak of #12 on the Oricon charts.
At the time, it was used as a commercial song for Dai-ichi Life Insurance.
Debbie's version was only released in Japan, making it a difficult CD for overseas collectors to obtain.
Debbie's mother, who was her manager, was very fond of Tatsuro's musical style and requested more songs from him.
In 1993, a song called EYES OF THE CHILD was also created.
This is an a cappella song where Debbie's voice intertwines with Tatsuro's multi-layered chorus, resulting in another wonderful track.
