Description
Authentic vintage Adlake No. 31-F electric railroad conductor's lantern, made by the Adams & Westlake Company (Chicago - Elkhart - New York). Patented in 1932, this lantern was carried by train conductors and ran on battery power rather than kerosene, allowing for quick bulb switching out on the line. Sturdy galvanized metal body with original mustard yellow paint, worn beautifully with decades of use to reveal the silver metal underneath. Wire bail handle with yellow painted grip. Sliding switch mechanism on the side still moves freely. Interior holds two bulb sockets, glass globe is not present, bulbs are untested and no battery is included. Base is stamped CAUTION along with manufacturer markings and patent information. Measures 11 inches tall with handle up, base is 4 inches wide. Condition: heavy paint loss and patina throughout consistent with age and railroad service, sold as a decorative collectible. Not tested for electrical function, sold as is. A striking piece of railroad history, perfect for industrial, farmhouse, or man cave decor. Displays beautifully on a shelf, mantel, or entryway table. Every piece has a past. Find yours.
