【Excellent Condition】Sekonic L-8 Director Light Meter - Compact & Battery-Free 【Working Item】

This is a selenium photocell-powered, battery-free incident/reflected light exposure meter nicknamed Director or Leader Deluxe. It's incredibly compact and lightweight, measuring 43mm wide x 68mm long x 25mm thick. As shown in Image 2, it can measure high brightness with the front cover (multi-filter) closed, and low brightness with it open (Image 3). Furthermore, by attaching the optional detachable amplifier (large-area selenium photocell), it becomes a 3-step switchable ultra-low brightness meter. The above measurements are for reflected light. Incident light measurement is also possible by attaching the optional incident light measurement attachment (white plate) to the light-receiving part. For metering, align the red, blue, or yellow marks on the dial with the line indicated by the meter needle for high, low, or ultra-low brightness, respectively, and read the combination of aperture value and shutter speed from the dial. The LV value (same as EV value) is also displayed at the bottom of the dial, which is convenient. Unlike the CDS type used in later exposure meters, which tends to degrade over time, the selenium photocell in this unit is said to be usable semi-permanently. I love and collect retro selenium photocell exposure meters, but I am selling them to organize my dehumidified storage.

[Exterior] Please refer to the images for the condition. The top cover is very clean. The meter window and dial are clear with no scratches or cracks. There is slight peeling of the red paint on the pointer, but visibility is not an issue for practical use. There is age-related clouding on the black plastic bottom (Image 4), which is not noticeable at all as it's on the back.

[Operation] The meter needle is moving energetically. The measured value was almost identical to my other exposure meter (L-208) as shown in the 15th photo (at EV10). Fine adjustment is possible with the screw on the back.
The included leather case (Images 11-14) has some scuffs but no tears or damage, and is still fully usable. A genuine strap (Image 11) is also included (it seems undamaged, but may have aged, so it's safer to use a replacement).
With no worries about battery life, how about this as a spare exposure meter?

* The instruction manual can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
* The detachable amplifier for ultra-low brightness and the incident light attachment are not included.
* I have performed a general operation check, but this unit was released in 1957, so please understand.
