Humorous 4th of July Children Dog Firecracker Antique Postcard c.1910s

Discover this charming antique postcard, a vibrant snapshot of early 20th-century Americana, celebrating the spirit of the Fourth of July. The card features a delightful, humorous illustration depicting two boys and a black and white dog. One boy, with a mischievous grin, kneels to offer the dog what appears to be a stick of candy, while another boy, clutching a bundle of firecrackers, makes a hasty retreat. The accompanying dialogue, THE DOG: 'I think I'd better skiddOO; mother always told me never to accept candy from strange men,' adds a layer of whimsical irony, playing on the dog's 'thoughts' and the festive, slightly chaotic nature of holiday celebrations. This collectible piece is part of the Fourth of July Series No. 1, as indicated on both the front and back, and bears the item number 1100. The patriotic border, adorned with red and white stripes and blue fields with yellow stars, perfectly frames the scene, reinforcing its thematic significance. The postcard's divided back, with a stamp box indicating a domestic one-cent rate, places its origin squarely in the pre-WWI era, likely dating to the 1910s. This is a fantastic find for collectors of holiday memorabilia, humorous postcards, or early 20th-century Americana.
