Description
This is rare, high-grade Kishu Binchotan charcoal made from Ubame oak. I received a large quantity from a friend who runs a kiln, so I'm offering it in small amounts. Please be aware that the official union seal is the mark of quality, so be careful not to be misled by imitations.

Size: Approximately 10-25 cm in length, 3-6 cm in diameter.
Quantity: 2-4 pieces, weighing over 480g when dry. The weight will vary when the charcoal is damp, so please be cautious when purchasing from sellers without the official seal.

This is a convenient amount to try for home water purification and rice cooking. If you wish to break it into smaller pieces, simply drop it on concrete or asphalt.

The charcoal is unwashed. It is recommended for use as fuel for BBQs, as charcoal for shichirin (small clay grills), or after washing for water purification and rice cooking.

■ Washing Method
Rinse with water, then boil in a pot for about 10 minutes. Drain and dry for one day before use. You can dry it in the sun or indoors.

■ Water Purification
When placed in water after washing, it will release many bubbles and minerals. Within 6-8 hours, its porous structure will adsorb chlorine and harmful substances, resulting in a smoother, more delicious taste. 100g per 1L of water is recommended, but using more is fine. It can be used in ice-making water tanks, water bottles, or water dispensers. Some people also add it to their bathwater.

■ Rice Cooking
Approximately 100g is suitable for 2-3 go (about 360-540ml) of uncooked rice. The rice will stand up better, its sweetness will increase, and you'll notice how delicious it is even on its own.

■ Charcoal Fire
Compared to common mangrove charcoal, it features a more authentic charcoal aroma and less smoke, with a longer burning time. For small amounts, it's recommended for use in hibachi (braziers) or shichirin. Please be aware that rapid heating can cause air trapped in internal pores to expand, making the charcoal jump, so exercise caution.

▫️ Deodorizing
Placing it in shoe cabinets or inside damp leather shoes will help deodorize and absorb moisture.
