This listing includes two separate vintage Japanese wooden tea caddies. The first is a dark brown canister featuring a finely hand-carved bamboo motif on the lid. The second is a vibrant red-brown lacquerware box featuring a gold maki-e style inlay of a bird perched among plum blossoms. Both boxes have a high-gloss, dark-lacquered interior meant to preserve tea leaves.   Dating to the mid-to-late 20th century, these traditional chazutsu or natsume canisters are essential pieces of Japanese tea ceremony culture.
