Vintage Hand Wrought Gret Barkin Brooch, Round Layered Copper Brooch with Ornate Engraved Design, Vintage Signed Brooch, New Hope, PA Brooch  This brooch measures approximately 1 inch in diameter. It is made of copper. It is a mid-century brooch that is signed Hand Wrought, Gret Barkin, New Hope, PA. The brooch is in nice vintage condition.   Gret Barkin holds an unusual place in the annuals of costume design. Barken was a woman who both owned her company and designed all of the pieces.   Barkin and her husband Rube operated her company out of New Hope during the 1940s- 50s. Her unique modernist pieces are immediately identifiable with their signature etched and fused double layer designs.  Not a lot of information is out there on this remarkable woman who was still designing into her 90s and passed away at age 99 in 2007.  This brooch is a double layered round brooch. It is etched with a pretty design on both layers.
